Fool-Proof Way to Increase Your Twitter Followers

by admin on December 2, 2009

freddyLet me take you back a bit so that you can truly understand where I’m coming from and what qualifies me to even speak on gaining twitter followers or anything of the sort.

I’m going to start off by saying I’m not an avid twitter user….I prefer facebook even though many will argue that there not even comparable, but I digress. So know that I don’t “GET” Twitter just yet, but I know that it is useful to millions in a social way I like to think of my use on Twitter for networking and building relationships which is what I primarily use it for besides a little harmless flirting..;).

I’ve tried every way possible to gain twitter followers! Here are some methods I’ve tried when I had no followers:

  • From having material that users actually want to RT, but that kind of falls under the whole chicken and egg problem. Basically if you have no followers WHO will retweet your tweets in order for you to get more followers? It could work if you had some followers.
  • Doing the whole you follow me I follow you thing. Yeah it looks good at face value when a user comes to your profile and sees you have 2,000 followers, but then look over and you also follow 2,200 people it doesn’t look as impressive.
  • We all have tried the follow bots and follow a train and 100’s of users will follow you back. Yes it works, but not in an effective way that will get you any type of response to your tweets or any RT value and honestly nobody pays anybody attention when ALL your followers found you by a Twitter bot. They are there to market their product and you the same whether it be an event, services, or whatever and you end up with a lot of spam and a flooded Twitter stream.

After trying all these methods getting up to 2,000 plus followers and realizing that maybe 20 or so actually paid my tweets any attention or could even see them noticing that they were following just as many people their Twitter streams were probably just as flooded as mine.

I Deleted all the people i followed and in return it deleted most of my followers because they were all bots and/or had unfollow anybody that unfollows me activated with the bot they used. I wanted to start fresh and get rid of all the noise in my Twitter stream.

Now I can say I don’t have a celebrity style following on Twitter, but I do have right at 1,050 followers and it grows daily without ANY extra work on my behalf and I get RT’d very often and get responses to questions I might ask from time to time on Twitter.

How? Simple! I have something going on outside of Twitter. That is what works and that is what gets me all my followers that I gained over the last month…considering I started from around 130-150. Once you’ve done the above all the other ways of saying something interesting and/or getting retweeted will have a much larger effect on your twitter follower count, because you now have REAL followers who pay your tweets attention.

The answer may sound crazy and too simple to work, but believe me it does. All the people with hundreds, thousands, and even millions of followers all have something that they’re popular for going on outside of Twitter. Think of somebody you follow that is NOT your real-life friend or facebook buddy and ask yourself why you follow them? Probably because they do something important outside of Twitter whether its online or offline. Thats why you searched them out and followed them, because your interested in what they have to say and might even check their page to see if they say something you might want hear from time to time. One of the people I follow and suggest you follow is @lilduval one of the funniest guys on Twitter…ending this post on a light note.

Hey, so I love what you said about gaining more followers and i’m totally for that, However… You didn’t say WHAT or WHERE to sign up for something outside of Twitter that would benefit a Twitter user in gaining more followers. I would love to follow whatever path you’re on, and although I understand that you might have left that part out to just generalize the situation and allow others to find something outside of Twitter that works for them on a more personal level, that doesn’t imply that what YOU did won’t work for someone else…So if you don’t mind, I would love to know where and what you did specifically. Thanks! and Happy Holidays!
