Hmm…not really, but let me explain. Making money online comes in many forms. Here are a few that I personally use on a daily to make money.
- Blogs- My blogs consist of product based communities with affiliate links & images relating to the products. (I will speak on affiliate marketing in another blog for now see www.cj.com)
- Email marketing- Sending targeted updates by emails to opt-in subscribers from my community blogs with affiliate link product offers embedded.
- Social Networks/Referrals- Services like ad.ly, MyLikes, Google Adsense etc…etc that let you earn referral commissions from sending members/advertisers/publishers to perform an action on their site.
- Application/Add-ons- This is where sites I own like Caltweet & Doctor Twitter would fall.
Notice that two of the three I mentioned above don’t necessarily require you to have a website. Reason being is you can email and refer people to a social network without having a website. If you have a large following on Twitter, Facebook or Myspace they more than qualify as referrals..probably better. Let me explain! These social network friends/fans usually have a deeper connection to you than people who might read a blog or receive an email from a stranger therefore your recommendation holds more weight.
Having a website or blog or landing page, basically somewhere a user can come and receive more information periodically or perform an action (collecting emails) helps with the process and increases your chances with the other ways of making money online.
I realized that when getting my Twitter page its boring with no followers! It’s pretty much useless to me with no followers! Finally I can’t promote any offers with no followers! I need followers! Now I have followers 1,400+ to be exact. How? Because I have a website! This website, Caltweet, Doctor Twitter & other web properties that I use to point a finger toward my Twitter page which in return gives me more people to earn referrals from. (follow me here) I also have landing pages that I use to collect emails which I in return send users offers on products that they signed up to receive more information on or weekly/daily updates about.
So no you don’t need a website to make money online, but unless your somebody famous or have an influence that will lend you a large audience it will help greatly with earning online. If you can’t afford a website right now then you have two other choices: Learn how to design/create a website or start without a website and build as you go, but eventually a website should be in the works.
